Hi all
I am about to order all of the bits for my conversion of an SPI to a turbo. I am going to rebuild the car from the ground up and looking at ordering the following. I would love to hear any comments that you may have before I do:
Brakes:
Strip down and rebuild the front callipers with new seals and pistons. Replace discs with drilled and grooved and pads with EBC green. Replace hoses with braided hoses. Strip down the rear brakes and replace the cylinders, shoes and springs. I am assuming that I need to change the calliper pistons. What do you think? Also, I was going to replace the read drums with the Superfin ones but they cost nearly £100 and not sure they are worth it.
Bushes:
Replace all the bushes, engine mounts, subframe mounts etc. Are there any that I should get or avoid?
Engine:
I have purchased a complete metro turbo engine and gearbox from a mate of mine. Not sure about the age/mileage so I was going to strip down and replace the following as a minimum: Water pump, thermostat, carb service kit, radiator, all gaskets, main bearings, big end bearings, thrust washers, dizzy cap, rotar arm, plugs, leads and clutch. Is there anything else that I should look at replacing? Should I look at the cam followers, oil pump, studs and nuts?
Suspension:
My plan is to buy 13x7 Mini Lights, use the avo adjustable shocks that I have (standard height) and fit HiLo’s. Would these be ok? I know that I will get rubbing when turning but it is easily solved. Would the HiLo’s be able to lower the car so that it looks right but not rub on the floor?
I think that’s about it.
I would really like some comments as this is my first Mini project and I’m not 100% sure.
Thanks
Speed doesn't kill, suddenly becoming stationary, now that's what'll get ya!
