im currently running 12psi on this engine with std box and drops
on a std t2 turbo on mirrage manifolds with ford rs turbo intercooler
i am getting 115bhp @ wheels

its a med fis engine
MED said the CR is around 8.0:1
1293cc
11 stud
centre main strap
omega pistons 10cc dish
med t3 cam
1.5 rockers
the cylinder head has 36.0mm and 30mm valves with 29cc chambers

im in the process of changing to:
sc drops and gear box
megajolt and wideband
and possibly turbo techniques hybrid t2

once i have these in place i am wondering what boost / power people run i was thinking of about 18psi is this advisable?

Should be fine to run more than that as long as everything is ok ignition, fuelling intercooler etc!

I would double check your CR for sure though. Standard T2 run out of puff around 15psi though from experience.

With standard block height, 10cc +0.020 cast omegas and 28cc in the head I worked it out to a knat's cock over 8.0:1, so that looks good to me.

On occasion, we've put over 20psi into the van on standard pistons at around 8.2:1 and so far it hasn't gone bang. We usually run 15-17 psi with no real problems (apart from torque steer *smiley*). It will be interesting to see what the pistons are like when the head comes of next month...

Yes Andy I have also put 20psi + through the A35, on standard Midget pistons, and it went quite well, but you could almost hear the pistons creaking.
One or two short bursts was enough - I wanted to be able to drive home.Like you, I have used 15 psi regularly, but now with MT pistons.Maybe I should live more dangerously ?.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

as above but dont kill youself in the process .......... as the power will catch you out
my guestimate with a good intercooler and a well set up engine @18 psi you will be getting someware around .......... 180 bhp

I should have said standard turbo pistons with new total seal rings on a tight freshly honed block...

it would have been intresting if you change the dizzy for mj to see if it inproved.

having looked at what cc your running it may be better for you to run higher than 12psi, gessing the t2 spools up quick. it might be worth pushing more towards 15psi, maybe more. well worth a trip to the rollers when its in.

what im try to say is, its lower cc in the head and bigger cc in the bore than mine so it only makes sence that you run higher boost, just not sure where you stand with the t2.

essex meet would be cool.

Essex meet sounds like a good idea.
Have to arrange something, where abouts do you live theoneeyelizard? No a good pub *tongue*

the only reason I am running 12 psi at the moment is when I had the engine built I had it with a standard box and drops with a xpin diff using a dizzie

This was a few years ago now and the funds have come together to *Clapping* UPGRADE *Clapping* I have been collecting parts like the mj setup and I am doing this gearbox

The t2 turbo is on full boost at 2,500 rpm and pulled from there all the way around. The biggest problem with it is first gear it’s basically useless at the moment as you pull away and have to change to second instantly hopefully this will be better with the sc box and diff final drive

the boost being on at 2500 rpm makes it perfect for the back roads you can be on boost all the time pretty much with minimal down changes (lazy driving) I don’t often have to change down to get back on boost as it is already there.

Thanks for the info on what you guys run just wanting to get an idea of what to expect is that 180ish @ wheels or flywheel?

about 1.2 bar on a hybrid turbo that sort of size, but being a t2 hybrid there is loads of options of what can be done with them being garret theres a lot that can fit from other garret turbo's so it really depends on how adventurous turbo technics wants to be to be fair

i would personally recomend a better intercooler if you can fit it in, as unfortunately the escort rs turbo intercooler isnt the greatest of coolers, with a much better intercooler there be no reason why you couldnt run 21psi all the time without the fear of melting pistons, the only weak link would be the gearbox, but the life of the gearbox could still be further improved with crygenic treatment (depends on how far you want to go with it)

I have a very similar set up to you but have one of Mirage motorsports hybrid T2s. It's basically a GT5 T2 with a 360 degree bearing, a different (although standard size) comp wheel and re-profiled housing. I recommend it if you want to run a bit more boost but keep the lag low.

Can I ask how the MED T3 cam goes with the 1.5 rockers? I need some rockers but I'm tossing up between 1.3s and 1.5s.

I haven't turned the boost up yet as I'm still running in. It's actually Nic's old turbo and he was running 18psi and getting 190 bananas, I suspect it would be starting to loose efficiency at this point though. It starts building boost before 2000rpm so great road manners and decent boost too.
