my photo card expired on my licence at the beginning of the week. I went in last week to the post office to sort it all out but given me leaving it a bit late, haven't got the new one through yet. Anyone know what the legalities are if it hasn't been updated on the system yet??

If it has expired and you don't take steps to replace/rectify it then you face up to a £1000 fine, the same as if you change your address but not update your licence.

Its only the photocard that has expired. The paper licence is THE licence. The photocard is only an extract from THE licence, and on its own, is not a licence.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

I thought one was only valid with the other? Anyhow, they took both parts back so I don't actually have a licence to produce at the moment |

As far as I'm aware, with a photocard and paper counterpart you need both parts where as with an old paper licence that is the licence.

Straight from the horses mouth:
Driving before your licence is returned
You can drive before you get your licence as long as you: * have held a Great Britain or Northern Ireland licence issued since 1 January 1976 or another exchangeable licence * are not disqualified from driving * haven't been refused a licence for medical reasons or for failing to comply with medical enquiries * wouldn't be refused a licence for medical reasons - if in doubt, check with your doctor * keep to any special conditions that apply to your licence Probably worth reading this too: http://www.esf-online.org/Documents/Photo%...g%20licence.pdf On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

I was about three months late doing mine, never had any problems. Would have been a bit more worried if i'd actually thought about it probably. I just kinda figured it's only the photo that has actually expired, I mean I drove fine before i had a photocard license, how can an expired photo have any importance??
And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers! |

sure is - £24.50 at the post office to renew something I already had. Just hoping the points have rubbed off on the new paper section! |
