How critical is it to have a balance tube between the inlet runners?

Anyone tried with or without?

I notice that Weber manifolds rarely, if ever, have one.

If you are thinking about the balance tube on the double SU manifold, then as far as i know. Bloked pipe gives more low end power and less top end power. Open pipe, less low end power and more top end power.
Opel (maybe vauxhaull to) had a valve on the 6 cylinder Omega in the early ´90 that opened and closed at 3000 rpm in order to give the best off two worlds.

It does indeed.

You are doing very well if you have got to page 443 already.

Fantastic read. Throw away any of the old theories about engine wave dynamics and start again. I'm going to get the companion volume soon.
