Ok then what dial gauges and base have you boys got as i am looking for one. I am not looking at spending lots of cash on one.

Any help would be good.

I got one from machine mart, with a mag stand, very good quality and not pricey either.

Had it a couple of years, was just a cheepo one in a orange/red box.

Not sure how accurate it is, but imo you just need it to be consistent - I'm guessing you're doing cam timing

Not very sunny swanage

tbh, cheap ones off ebay are actually pretty good, we have a few of them at work, as well as a few more expensive ones and they're pretty much the same. The better ones are slightly smoother in operation, but for 99% of jobs this wont matter at all.....

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

Dial gauge measures lift/movement not angles.
Protractor measures degrees.

I'd go for imperial mate as usually with the a-series everything is imperial.

Don't worry about it Simon. You don't tend to pay attention to the digits after a while you just look at the movement of the needle about zero.

The digits you'll be working with are also easy enough to convert to imperial. *wink*
