Hi,

just to tell you that i've found a manufacture of Decompression Plate and head gasket in Copper, stainless steel or alloy.

this company is based in south-east of france, near my home.

www.syrene.fr

I'v' ordered a decompression plate ( 4mm ) following 850-998-1098 head gasket design today. it may cost between 60-75 euros ( 51-64 £ ) by unit.

If several items order are made, this price will decrease, what it the thickness choose.

It decompression plate / head gasket can have the following thickness: 1-1,5-2-2,5-3-4-5 mm. With or without hole for water flow, etc...

If anyone here are interested, don't hesite to contact me. I can arrange a grouped order.

I can accept paypal or transfer swift.

Cheers.

Eric

hi there eric, well on turbominis a decompression plate is considered a Bodge and 99.99% of members wont use them, and rightly so!

i dont think you will not have many takers.

Hi Benross and everyone,

Thks for your words. I totally agree that decompression plate is not the best way to build a high end top powerfull engine, but some of famous german tuner as Hartge or Alpina use this piece on its best engines when turbo were put on N/A engines.

It could be a good way to decrease CR at cheapest cost, and used on nice and machined block and head, it can allow to use a reliable engine.

Aren't the best engines using absolutly the same lenghtes of hoses on turbo exhaust manifold and absolutly not siamese ports with full alloy engine ?

I don't think there is only one solution but several solutions in life. All is question of compromises and prices !!!

Please accept all my best regards.

Eric

To be honest, lasercutting & watercutting is very cheap to do nowadays. All you need is a cad drawing of an old head gasket, thats if people want to go down that path.

Edit; Would it work if (especially if your dry decking) to make an extra thick single piece metal gasket???

Costa del Northern Ireland :)

I ran a decompression plate and wouldn't advise it. It was an alloy one and melted between cylinders 2/3. Then tried a copper one which also failed. I don't think a decompression plate is a good idea on a mini with it's stud pattern. My plates came from farriday engineering and were CNC machined. My 998 was only running 7psi boost

That mini is determined to Kill me!!!!

Seems a strange choice of material for a plate ?

Steel or steel based metals only IMO.

Plus I'd imagine a spacer plate would also mean you need longer pushrods otherwise rocker geometry will go to shit.

I really cant see any reason why anyone would ever want to run a spacer.

Especially as the A series head is so easily (cheaply) modified to increase the chamber campacity.
