i have never been a massive fan of the vauxhall, honda, suzuki conversions ect, main reasons are that i do like the a series (its part of the mini heritage after all), they never seem to sit right and i have only ever seen two conversions that looked good even the "factory" (no names) conversions can look hashed together, i do think i would be a convert if more converted cars looked better.

I do look forward to some updates however as you did a fab job on the turbo so i see no reason why this wont end up the same.

Ps one of the two conversions ive seen and liked was a 16xe from a tigra i believe in a clubby! i think the guy used to be on the forum

I'm lucky, I've got the XE in one mini and the 8 port in another so can appreciate the pro's and cons of both.

I'm liking the curved section before the trumpets on the induction setup. Is that home made? looks really neat :)

Here for the craic..

Thanks again guys all comments welcome, and wolfie i agree, just hope I can make this work and 'look' right.

The curved section was used on an allspeed demo car you get the desirable 90mm trumpets in a standard upper bulkhead / firewall

Given the standard of the rest of the car I have no doubt it will turn out nicely.

Edit: First comment removed as it made me appear anti engine conversion due to a poor choise of words.

I must say that unless the mini is an everyday car I do not see the point in doing engine conversions though.

dont really agree, mine will still be far from a daily drive! weigh in at just over half a tone and have 160 - 200 horses.. sounds like a track car to me *wink*

but if i can jump in and just turn the key and it fire up with no worries on route that im happy with that!

Quick update.

Bulkhead is now painted, and the subframe installed, also added the new bottom arms and tie rods, some fancy billet jobs with adjustable rod ends.

Subframe took some fannying about to get it in - more of the inner wing needed to be removed and the tower bolts were being a pita.

Removed the a-series gear selector and started to position the new XE one.

Would have got more done however when i went to clean up the inner wheel arch i found some rust which needed cutting out and a patch panel adding..

will get some more pics up tomorrow.

Thanks Ron / Pauly.

Takes me far to long to get things finished so I'm not committing to a race! Will leave that until Avon :)

Looks a good project mark. I must admit im with wolfie but i think out of most of the conversions the 16 is about the best. Its smaller and lighter than the 20ltr so in theory will handle better and doesnt need as much power as it isnt as heavy.

Rick

ps that pic above looks brilliant

Not sure if its the one but it looks good, looks like a factory fit ... how it should be.

The 1.6 does seem to suit the bay better than the other conversions

Nah would be easy *hehe!*

If i were doing an engine conversion i would seriously consider buildinig my own rear subframe and going RWD.

Pics as promised for my most recent update. Subframe in place, will be painting this again once i have test fitted the engine and box.

and a close up of the tie bars i will be using.

Next on the list is to remove the paint and crap from the inner arches, repair where needed, stonechip and paint.

then i will get the car back on the wheels ready for the engine test fit.. work out what masters will fit with the induction setup and filter etc.

cheers, Mark
