hi guys i have a little problem with the running of my mini it coughs and splutters when the choke is not being used but when i use the choke it runs like a little rocket any ideas on what this might be and how to solve the problem the engine is 1275 a+ and i think the carb is hif 44 not too sure though a mate of mine mentioned it may be running too lean ??thanks in advance guys |

If it runs better when the choke richens it up, then it must be to lean as normal. Do you have the correct needle fitted & is the mixture set properly ? |

I think what he is saying there is you need to perhaps get a decent mini manual out and have a look the info on setting the basic fuel mixture, the needles also control the fuel mix and can be standard or various modified profiles, have a look at how to remove the needle-look for a 3 letter code stamped on it and do a search across the forums i believe there are tables to show what needles are for which engine. The above is not perfect and a rough guide but should get it running something like if its just a standard/ish motor, I would make sure all igniton system is all top notch before doing any of that.

There's no reason to rebuild it if it functions ok. Try adjusting the mixture to make it a bit richer & see how it goes ?

it has been like this since i got it 2 year ago but as i have fully restored it and only just rebuilt the engine it hasnt bothered me as i havent been running it its defo a fuel mixture problem all the ignition components are new this and the fact that it runs superb when the choke is fully on i will get it all together and running then alter the mixture if that fails then look a bit deeper in to the problem |
