Where is the evidence that torque steer is caused by unequal drive shaft lenghts. If it was a mini would torque steer in the same direction every time, and they don't.

i would say that before anyone starts shooting it down it needs testing on a high power car first..

like benross says - has anyone used one?

We all know what it is but this explains a couple of things about the unequal shaft length.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

That is an interesting article, but it make no mention of wheel offset, which has the largest overall impact on torque steer.

Equal drive shaft lenghts (and hense equal angles on the flat) may be an advantage on a car with large suspension movement, but not so much on a mini.

Yeah I went out in it and when I was overtaking I had to steer towards the car I was passing!

I get the opposite effect, it usually pulls towards the car im passing.

Vauxhalls with one 8 inch shaft and one 8 ft shaft torque steer and would benefit from (more) equal length shafts. But minis? Not really unless you have daft wheels as stated above...

Andy Cameron (not been on here for ages now) runs and equal length kit but i'm not sure who made it. I remember at the time when he fitted it it made a differance to the torque steer but it certainly didn't eliminate it.

FYI, the car had circa 140bhp at the wheels and running 13x8 alleycats. I recall something about fitting an LSD but i'm not sure now - its been a while

Somewhere around Swindon

JK or KAD developed and made them, there must be some data out there on how good they were or you can assume the worst about them considering they dont make them any more

As many have already stated, King pin offset and wheel offset are the only issues you need to focus on to improve torque steer, this is just an expensive way to make your car heavier.

Hi-whats best/worst in the terms of offset-zero, positive orf negative for ts, mine is quite bad but I do have rubbery suspension which is about to be changed.

To counter torque steer you want positive offset,

to put it into perpective the MPI mini has rims with +22mm offset, what most people do is whack a set of 7x13's on, these usually have -7 offset, this is the same as putting on a 29mm wheel spacer!

I think John K runs the JKD kit on his gold car, or at least used to. I also seem to remeber that Scruffy might also run the JKD kit.

I'll be honest and say that when I was running 150hp (50hp nitrous) Under full throttle right up to 7.5k rpm with an open diff and 13x6 wheels, that the car pulled straight and true without any dramatic or noticable 'torque steer'

I have experienced more torque steer on roads that were drying out where one wheel looses traction more than the other, but then, equal drive shafts and smaller wheel size wont change much there.

leeds/wakefield.

And you are all missing a very inportant point here,

that being that we discussed this on here years a go,

and cam to the conclusion ,or more prceisely i asked Turbo Dave to use his spread sheat that works out twist in a shaft6 for a given torque input,
to check the twist of a standard dia shaft, the add dia to the long shaft untill the twist was equal, if i recall it was something like a 2mm increase equaled things out,

Depends witch side your passing him on?
Mine always pulls to the left with torque steer. And the first time I drove mine with 13x7s I hated it but then I got used to it I like how they feel now. Maybe they will become a problem when I get more power.
