Would it work?

Looks like they've machined a flat in the bottom of the casing. Wonder how it's fastened in.

Without tying it into the sides of the casing, it seems a bit pointless.

In fact...the fact he is still using a helical box...makes it even more pointless !!! What does he think he is strengthening that is going to break ?

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Im sure it is, but that alone really isnt going to do anything worthwhile

except maybe crack around where its bolted through tiny vibrations/fatigue?

If infact something does go, it will crack that area of the box, so it will be scrap?

I guess it could cause the floor of the box to break if it was taking any load. The last thing you would ever want to happen !

Ive seen similar things before, I dont think its a bad idea personally. The floor of the case has massive strength with the cooling fins, it'll stop the pinion climbing the crownwheel

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I guess the idea was the same as the bearing supports you can already buy now. Yes good thinking, the floor isn't that thick really.

Out of interest do you have a pinion support Matt? I would have thought with your torque and a 2.95 you will give the box a real hard time.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

imo that will be doing absolutely fook all 99% of the time, its only when the pinion tries to climb the crown wheel ie the point where the standard case begins to flex it would then be an extra support reducing the bearing load from the main double roller bearing potentially allowing higher stresses to be endured, BUT imo it is also tied into the weakest part of the case with what look like m8-ish sized bolts i doubt it will help much in that particular install not to mention the heli's

possibly beefing up the floor of the box and a more substantial support and it would be a great help but there are off the shelf parts to do this with much less work involved

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*
