I only went to the reptile shop to buy a new bulb for Erika our bearded dragon and I ended up buying a baby corn snake and set up :$

Funnily enough I went to the bank later and the bloke on the desk told me my finance review was due *happy*

I've wanted a snake for a long time. I've never owned one but have experience keeping exotic pets so started off with something easy to care for, then I might consider moving onto a Boa or Python :)

Never really understood the fascination with keeping such animals captive as pets.

I'm sure the animals arent that happy either ?

animals dont know the difference, provide plenty of hiding places and there happy as larry, if a snake is not comfortable in an environment they just dont eat, simple as that.

Completely agree bennyy.

My bearded dragons are in a 8ft by 3ft vivarium and they come out and rome about the house as happy as larry tell me that aint fair.

People don't understand how they are kept they have tight guidelines. Heat, humidity, feeding, food dusting with calcium just to keep them happy and healthy so they have the best possible life...

They aint just a pet they are a commitment...

People that think keeping reptiles is cruel in comparison to keeping dogs/cats simply don't understand the level of care that go into them.

Dogs, cats and birds were all wild once and are now captive bred, technically this is just as 'cruel' as keeping a reptile? There are alot of people who make the same judgement but really it's quite hypocritical when you consider those same people keep other more conventional pets.

I spend stupid amounts on my vivariums, heating equipment, substrate and specialist foods. Erika is handled everyday and loves human company yet there are people who feed their dog cheap food and leftovers and rarely walk/worm/de-flea them, personally I think that is cruel.

I think he is Anery but I'll have to double check. He's gorgeous

I dont understand keeping reptiles, but when I had a dog, I also didnt keep it locked in one room.
And more often than not, the dog could have made a run for it if it wasnt happy where it was. It never did.

Although I appreciate you're hardly likely to take a snake for a walk lol
But the environment you create may be good. But if given the choice would it escape ?

Not so far. Erika gets run of the house and in summer the garden. Her Viv door is always left open and she always goes back in when she's had enough of hanging around plug sockets *happy*

Snakes are excellent escape artists and also very inquisitive so will happily roam around for however long. However they like to sleep in tight dark spaces and their temperatures have to be monitored so I think they'd prefer to live than stay out and die *wink*

as said above, reptiles are cold blooded, so ambient temperature has gotta be spot on, so heat mats/heat bulbs are used on thermostats to keep the temp just right.

you can actually buy special leads for lizards, i know a bloke who used to take his for walks, obv. in the summer weather though lol

My son loves reptiles...he has 2 ball pythons and takes very good care of them. He'd have 100 if I let him! We also have 2 black lab freebie homeless muts....best pets in the world! Here's one looking very upset.... *laughing*

Awwww, I love animals (except most cats and monkeys)

This is Koeni, he's so tiny at the moment but he should reach between 4-5ft

It's a boy, thankfully, as they are more docile and relaxed than females.

He's in a small plastic RUB at the moment until he's about 12-18 months then I'll transfer him to his vivarium. He's in our bedroom at the moment so people can't hassle him and I can monitor his temps. Erika our beardie has her viv in the living room as she loves seeing people. Once Koeni is in his viv then I'll probably bring him downstairs on top of Erika's viv, although I get annoyed with visitors sticking their faces up to the glass and wanting to touch/hold them.

yes they are slightly smaller than females too :)

i used to keep mine in a plastic tub until he was big enough to move into a 2ft viv. i the garage, best to keep them in an environment just the right size so they feel secure *happy*

Our door is shut when we're not in the room so if he escaped he would be confined to the bedroom.
