hi, basically next month i am putting a metro lump from a GTA into my mini, then looking at tuning this, could any1 recomend what to do tuning wise for some decent power. i cant afford to turbo the car plus the insurance wont touch a turbo lump.
im after going to a few drag events this year with my local club and would like some good 1/4 mile times.
any help would be appreciated?
thanx

Lanxter,

you are never going to get very quick times on a standrd lump.

As Iain says loose weight from the car, there is at least 10 kg of sound proofing in a mini!

So realy it boils down to basic tuning...rule number 1 = breathing equals BHP...simple as that.

So money spent on a decent Flowed head, filter,Long centre branch(LCB) manifold, exhaust pipe and cam will release alot of power.

Good luck!

It'd be smart to fit bigger pistons if you bore it out to 1293, or you'll experience a lot of blow by. Or, are you thinking of fitting bigger than 1293 pistons in a 1293?? That might be a tight fit..

I wouldn't waste your money on another 18cc. go for 1380 and pickup some pistons from Morspeed or Vmax or better still watchout on Ebay.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.

i ran a 1380 for a while and it was fine (85bhp at wheels), talk to an engine builder about what you want

remember the more power you want out of a 1380 (or any engine) could make it unreliable. Not necessarily the engine itself, but stuff like the gearbox, or cooling system etc

Make sure you budget for the whole system or you could end chasing problem after problem

They're unuseable, sorry. For a big bore engine with anything else than a standard camshaft, you'll need twin Hs4s.
Put them back on Ebay!

It doesn't matter. If you want to drag your Mini then obviously you want some oomph out of it. You won't get that with those pea-suckers.

I wouldn't bovver with twin 1 1/4, a flowed 1 3/4 on a decent manifold would be better.or a single 45

Honestly? Well you paid a fair price, but a single HIF44 (1 3/4") will outperform them, be easier to set up and get the correct needles for, and comes free with any 1275cc metro engine...........

Not trying to be harsh but my opinion would be spend a few hours cleaning and polishing the twin HS2's up and then re-list them on ebay with a smart picture or two........
