If you have split webers on a standard engine then remove them and fit a su carb, totally pointless in my opinion.

this is both correct and incorrect , it will acheaive nothing in the engine performance stakes, but if he tells some young chick he has split webbers on his car he is bound to get lots of sex with her and all her friends, also any joung lads in the pub will form a que to buy him beer ,

therefore acheiving two things , a sore knob and a beer belly,

job dome.

now here did i put that old set of webbers,

Then wait until that is done and go and get it properly set up on the RR. The problem is that you can't tune a weber over the internet. There are lots of things that need sorting not just the main jets.

A lot of people refer to a single Weber carb as a split. Which is a different thing all together?
A picture would help.
But on a stock motor it’s a waste of time I'm afraid.

Split Webers are a waste of time on even a full race engine. More is achieved through a single weber

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

we were discussing this today; was the split weber thing not something to do with the cooper originally homologated with twin carbs and accordingly, when they wanted to use webers for better fueling they had to use 2?

Homologation would have been twin SU's. The weber would have had to have been homologated if they wanted to use it.

IIRC they were only ever used on track and not in rally and the rules may have allowed twin chokes rather than just a homologation.

The reason I was led to believe twin webers came ti fruition was to ensure a straight inlet tract.

Think about it, twin SU's are better than a single SU. the reason is that each carb sits right infront of each port. a twin choke weber is also considered better than a single SU, but the chokes do not sit right infront of each port. Use a single choke from a pair of weber's and you can now get the chokes to sit infront of each port.

Thats all fine and well, but I also read somewhere that this mod was only of any benefit on an engine that pretty much runs at 8krpm and race duration. Totally pointless on the road compared to a single weber.

I contemplated split Webers about 6 years ago, Baldwin and Swifty both said 'Dont, you'll lose power'. Gav tried it back to back with a single Weber and the single was better

I seriously doubt it!
