I'm running these ratios on my 1450 nonturbo with 3.44 diff and 13's. first gear is LONG but the rest seem well spaced. my clutch takes a hammering driving in traffic though.

i sure do.. but when you get it going it shifts through the gears like a banchee. I have the added bonus of 5th so it still makes motorways easy driving.
I wouldn't wan't to go down to a 3.1 diff with a 2.544 first gear but going down to 10's might make things a little better.

2.54 first is easy with any turbo engine. If it isn't easy, your engine isn't powerfull enough!

I find my 1st gear ideal, the std a+ i had before was way too low geared in 1st, also can do a 0-60 run with 1 gear change (just).

TurboDave comes out with a cracking one liner.

But I must agree, with a low compression engine and a long duration cam 2.54 would feel smooth as there isn't enough grunt off boost to pull the skin off a rise pudding :) now add some right foot and a gauge full of PSI's, Dump or Slip the clutch it's your choice and off she goes at warp speed if it all holds together.

I guess I was giving my none turbo opinion of running 11.5:1 with a 286, Weber, grey dia and rally plate makes for a very cammy not liking first gear combination but having said that I?ve put up with it for many years now and intend to for many more.
