Decided to respray the metro myself. Need to spray a few bits on the mini and GTti too. Need some help choosing a spray gun, what is the advantage of the more expensive ones? I have read DeVilbiss are good.

Planning on buying either one of these compressors to run a spray gun and probably some other tools:

Won't be spraying the car for a few months but want to start buying the equipment soon so I can practice.

Thanks

iv found that the more expensive spray guns are of better quality in material and in spray lot less splutter, blocking and better alround guns. i my self use top loading devilbiss guns and found them very good. You can get low pressure guns now that are good too they have a more directional spray and give off less over spray.

I've used a Clarke gun without any issues in the past but the majority of the painting has been cellulose. Generally the professionals use the devilbiss guns.

you'll also need a good compressor output to suit the gun you are using and a water trap/ pressure regulator.

as above breathing gear for 2 pak leathal, i have a 50l compressor charging a 350l reciver tank and it holds enough constant air pressure required for spraying, the biggest problem using a small compressor is the pressure drops effecting the spray pattern, pm i will help as much as possible *wink*

you will also need moisture traps, one in the airline direct to the gun and one connected to the output of the tank.

Regarding spray guns you can get some good cheap ones too personnaly it has to be HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) gravity fed, its all about the setup really as long as you can adjust air pressure, spray pattern and paint flow....

all personal choice, and trial and error *wink*

Confessed addiction to everything mini

Thanks for the help so far. Would this gun be suitable with the above compressors?

the gun air consumption is 9.8 CFM and the compressors are rated at 14CFM so in theory yes; However, If you are using an airfeb mask, you need to take into acount the consumpion of that if it is running from the same source.

Personally, we don't use an air-fed mask as we don't paint much and use appropriate filter masks instead - this is totallu up to you though with the risk of 2K

Can anyone suggest a air filter and/or regulator to get?

Thanks
