Very nice, that'll sound mean at idle with the turbo whistling away:)

Bit of an update.I've now trial fitted the engine and gearbox, cutting lots of new holes in the body on the way.Had a propshaft made to suit, only 24'' long!I put 15mm lowering blocks on the trans mounts,so the gearbox is 5 degree down now. Also put wedges under the axle pads to get 3 degrees up.I know these angles are supposed to be equal, but I'm sure when I drop the clutch, the pinion will try to climb the ring gear at least 2 degrees, even with the traction bars. The prop is 7 degrees up,so no big angles on the UJs.Also fitted the exhaust system - a pig!No room around the engine and some very convoluted pipe.Very close to various bits of body, but abig stiff engine steady should help.
Next up is to freshen the engine, pipe up the new turbo, and get the clutch working. This last item may prove a challenge!

Have you left some gaffer tape between your manifold and turbo??

I see you have your Lamda sensor closer than the recommended 1 metre from the turbo -was it this close before and did it cause any probs ?.

Well spotted Andy, this is still a mockup,so that is gaffer tape.
David, this is roughly the same as my previous setup,so I hope it will be ok.I've seen some conflicting ideas about lambda position, suggesting the turbo allows closer than 1 metre?

Thanks Steve - I was concerned that in my revised setup I too, have the Lambda sensor closer than I metre.

Looking great Steve...love the car! Nice to see the mock up of the hi-flow mani from Matty....I have one too and am anxious to get started. Have you decided on what intake manifold to run? I do know that from my trial fitting that there are some clearance issues with some due to to radiused center pipe. I only have the metro turbo intake right now, so I would prefer to see what fits before shelling out cash for anther one that doesn't.

I've never heard of having the sensor 1 metre away,

mine is about 5" with no issues, and plenty are similar. you will have no wories.

Hi Eric,I already trial fitted the metro N/A manifold and it just fits, touching the edge of the top cover in my case.It allows access to the fixings also. The turbo manifold does not fit unless you grind away some of the water cooling area underneath it.So my plan is to go with the N/A.

I didn't realise that the Type 9 box had the selector further back, or have you chopped out the body work under the heater & moved everything back for better weight distribution?

Hi Rob,yes the lever does go further back, but I have put 16mm of spacers in to accomodate the long shaft version of the box,so it's even further back than usual

You can have the remote gearchange shortened to bring the lever back to where you would like it - its a fairly common mod.

Steve, is 16mm all it takes to fit the long first motion shaft box ?

Wish I had known that before I bought my new box.

Looking good. I hope that this manifold gasket is for mock-up only. It won't last ten minutes.

Also, if you use mikalor clamps here, it'll neaten it up no end.

Bit of an update.I pulled the engine again and stripped it.Two faults, firstly the rear main cap half had worn through to copper,in about 1500 miles. All other mains and big ends looked fine, but were replaced anyway.Secondly no 2 cyl exhaust cam lobe had the bump worn off it coupled with big spalling to the follower face.No idea which went first, but the polishing over the wear suggests I ran most of last year like that.So new cam and followers, plus new oil pump (badly worn by debris).
Anyway, engine back in the car,new coolant plumbing to give thermosyphon effect to the turbo, new turbo oil drain into sump and set up exhaust system.Big moment, after getting oil pressure, fired second revolution and ran smoothly - not too loud either despite my concerns with the cherry bomb.VERY EXCITING!!!!!!!
So now clutch bleeding (midget nightmare)fix brakes, fix handbrake, make axle restraints etc.(a page long list) followed by a meeting with a very sympathetic MOT man..........
