Im currently trying to get all the parts togther for my mk1 brakes but im unbelievably confused on what cylinder sizes would be best.

The setup is as follows...

Twin leading shoes at the front
standard mk1 drums at the rear
Bias valve on rear subby (2 spring pressures available)
Unsure on master cylinder size

Any ideas what size master would give the best braking, and what bias valve I would need at the rear?

The mk1/2 seems to be different from the mk3, but im not sure if this is because they went to twin leading shoe at this point, if the rear cylinders were a different size, or if the master cylinder size changed?

As I need to replace the rear wheel cylinders im tempted to go with whatever cylinders were fitted to cars with the twin leading shoe setup.

As the tree said to the lumberjack....im stumped. *oh well*

Cheers
Mat

After having a quick read through somerfords, it seemd that the 70 bore size master cylinder gives the most braking effort, as opposed to the original mk1 75 bore?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

on the rear ones, use the standard size bore matty........ i think 12 mm ? they are a shade bigger bore size than the metro ones, as many years ago i was going to fit the metro ones with the two stud bolt pattern and do away with the flimsy clip the mini employs but the bore size was smaller, so i didnt bother

I doubt you will get a Mk1 bean can .75 MC now.

I run:
A twin yellow tag MC
Fiesta front calipers
1275GT rear wheel cylinders GWC1126 (you may need to drill another hole in the back plate to take the locating pin)
Mk2 valve on the rear subframe,

This gives a good immediate firm pedal just how I like it.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

1/2" is the smallest cylinder there is. I fit this to all my Minis. You don't need the rears to lock up.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Cheers guys, I'll go with the 1/2" rear cylinders then.

Using this type of valve, what effect would longer/shorter springs have on the braking?
