Public Service Announcement,

I'm getting fucked off with attitude displayed to new users.

Yes I agree they post stupid questions and cannot be arsed to search.

HOWEVER rather than giving them a fuck off tablet

PLEASE can you make your post to them

CONSTRUCTIVE

E.g. direct them to the Beginners and/or FAQ sections.

Thank you.

I think this is a fair comment. Quite a few 'newbies' are guided here from other forums and will just post up without looking in the search page, only to then get kicked in the love sack! Not very helpful

I think part of the problem is, that the level of technical knowledge on this forum is way above that found on most other forums.

When the general level of posts are way beyond 'how do i turbo my mini for cheepz' kind fo stuff you get over on the 'other' mini forum, it makes the 'can I turbo my 1098 without taking the head off' kind of threads really stand out

It seems to be the fate of most great forums, that eventually they will become too popular and attract an unwanted audience.

One bike forum I'm on, got a mention in MBUK a few years back, and the quality of posting dropped hugely within weeks.
In the end they set up a validation system, whereby new members were only able to post in an area called 'new members chat' to prove that they had something worth contributing. After 10-15 well thought out well written posts they can be validated by a mod, and allowed onto the main forum. Anyone found to be a complete prick gets 'de-validated'

Seems to work fairly well, although some wankers still slip through the net!

I'm with wolfie on this one. I've been a twat to new users more than a few times before.

I now consciously try to make an effort to push them towards the beginners section or the search button, however sometimes I still forget to run things past my brain before typing.

All 'newbie bashing' succeeds in doing (apart from discouraging 'some' numpties) is give us a bad reputation in the mini community.

This attitude is also killing some of the spirit and fun that this forum had so much of a while back.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Ahh... the good old days.

Like when some Irish school kids joined up to tell us we, and our minis, are all gay. Fun times *hehe!*

This is not meant as a discussion.

Hence this thread stops here, anything you desperately have to say can be directed to me via PM.

As a parting shot I have two things to say.

NUMBER ONE
Lets make the forum better, too many people will moan that newbies ask stupid questions, and will not search. SO, anyone that wants to write a FAQ topic, please feel free. I will assist where I can by editing to add changes suggested etc.

NUMBER TWO
Line in the sand, newbie bashing will not be tolerated from NOW. Wind your necks in please.
