got me motor on the road again last night after one of the gears giving up, its a 1275 turbo with s/c gears and drops,4 pin diff, running around 6psi *oh well*

drove off tonight and when coming on boost the revs went right up without the speed changing....and it smelt like burnt clutch...

after abit more driving around it wasnt doing it,but when giving it some i can smell that burning aroma again...*indifferent*

so guessing im in need of a new clutch kit?? what would you recomend and how much we talking? worty changing to a lihtened flywheel aswell??

could this be down to the s/c gears getting more power down??
as it were fine before i changed the gears *tired*

cheers

ps. car is pushing out 98bhp

What setup you running now ?? Grey Dia with a Rally plate ? or is it the std setup.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

if the clutch is standard

i bet its just given up on you as you may be driving a little spirited now

with it all back together if you have done this correctley?
hope so

if you fit a lightend flywheel i strongley suggest you have all the rotating components ballanced

and this means the engine out
if you just fit lightend flywheel sure it will work! But...............

i know the engine will not feel smooth when running anymore also further down the line you will have problems

the standard vertro cluthch is capable of taking more power than people give it credit for say 120bhp ish

the majority of all the problems on this site ARE....................

cause by most people getting hold of a standard metro turbo unit which is now older than my Granny and firing that in

and go whacking the boost up etc etc and the engines 80% clapped......out
its done more miles than a starship

they just keep going back over the weak links worn out parts

Dan in your case, Now
now that you have it all back together i would fit a new standard clutch and leave it at that i think you will be happy

*happy*some may argue................... but thats my oppinion *wink*

Have you nipped the primary gear seal when you built the engine back up and so is it leaking oil onto the clutch?? Did you use a new primary gear seal??

Yeah has been done properly, but yeah i know nothing of the engines history and it has been chucked in there, and boost cranked up. ive got a genuine turbo clutch kit now, should be more than ok for standard ish setup.

the clutch wasnt slipping all the time though, but when it wernt slipping you could still smell it.so im guessing the clutch is fooked and theres no oil leakage.. we shall see

Has it really been done properly?? Are all the straps straight, is the clutch diaphragm flattened??

if its standard turbo then its a verto clutch ,
you can
a,change for another turbo clutch kit after checking the one thats in it (should relase at 90 kg )
b, fit an uprated one -i do a 110 kg clutch i would rate it for 130 bhp
c, change to mini type clutch unit and decide what power you will be getting in the future for plate and cover choices which takes you up to the strongest for 200 bhp -thrust bearings beware -
then decide whether to lighten/balance what you have if necessary

Probably, keep an eye on the Debris in the oil with your new box Dan.

May warrant a oil, filter change in a few hundred miles *wink*

yeah i gave the box a real clean out, changed filter and put some 15/50 oil in there,

so theres a good chance the clutch could of been reducing the power then?
