I'm currently installing a SPI/MPI fuel tank in an Australian MKI Mini.

The S/H Rover tank came with the original diagonal tank strap and a long bolt and a captive nut. Thing is how does this all mount as the original strap just went around the circumference of the tank and was terminated in a captive nut in the boot floor near the L/H tail-light.

Since Rover minis are very thin on the ground down here, I was wondering if some kind soul could post a close-up picture of the mounting arrangements and any brackets etc.

TIA

Jim :)

Depend if you have the small tank or bigger one genuinely in your mk1, if it does have the bigger one you can just use your genuine strap to secure the mpi/spi tank, it worked for me.

This is the best pic I have from my build thread, as I've just fitted a new boot floor.

There's a captive nut on the rear seat back near the top, can get you a pic later on. The positioning isn't critical as long as it's just behind the seam on the tank and the bolt can go through it.

I also have a spare bracket for the floor (as pictured). Happy to post that out to you if you cover the postage cost.

Thanks for the pic. I will build a bracket, so thanks for the offer. Interestingly there is a rail on the early Minis that runs parallel to the L/H wheel arch around a inch from it and about 1/2" high. This is stopping my Rover tank fitting in nice and square. Might have to remove it. Also an Oz member has said that the original straps hold these later tanks in... just don't know if it is safe or not.

Thanks again for your help.:)

The original strap should be fine as long as it clears the pump. Might be fun getting it over all the connectors though. You'll need the original bottom rail though as the older style straps clamp the tank to that to make it secure.

Yeah, it does clear the pump, think I'll go for the original, I'm getting very impatient to get the EFI conversion going. 8-)
