From memory the 'E' version does the same as the non-'E' version but uses components that aren't suitable for DIY assembly which is why you can only buy it fully built now.

It's pretty much as Midas has said, but if your a berk like me and damage the unit, you can't repair it yourself. Other wise they work the same, the plugs are the same aswell, when I broke mine, I just plugged a normal v4 in. Turbo parts collector at the moment, almost ready. |

One of the other reasons for the difference is that Fresscale (makers of the MCU in the Megajolt) keep EOL'ing the chips. The makers of MJ decided to go surface mount to cut down on the number of returns that looked like they had been soldered with a hot shovel.
