Last summer one of the biggest issues I had was overheating but only in traffic. So my thoughts were to add an electric fan but I have seen this.

and says it can replace the existing one, does anyone know if this will be ok on it's own? Will the speed/ efficiency of the electric one work better in traffic? I would like to loose the standard one but I would like even more not to worry about overheating in traffic as i hate traffic at the best of times!

Thanks for any ideas *smiley*

fans are more efficient when pulling through radiators, so jsu tfit an electric one to compliment the mechanical one, if you dont the electric one will be working pretty hard and increases chance of a failure in the wiring or the fan itself :)

Also I'd say that fan kit is a fair chunk of dough,

I'd get one of ebay for about 30 quid, and just use a switch to turn it on, or put a thermo switch in the thermostat housing.

I bought a brand new one from ebay for £20 and it seems good quality just type 10" 12v fan they're all similar I think, bit like the chinese rads... I'm going to probably see if it can cope without the mechanical fan... May try 2 push and pull

Don't forget Phil run's mahoosive wheels, which may not give the same clearance as standard wheels

Thanks for the replies I will keep the mechanical one and buy an electric one for the inner wing. I like the sound of this one on ebay 370292778903 if I want it to pull do I just wire it that way and it's as simple as that?
I do also have big wheels. I hope it clears.
I will order it today if it will pull the air.

Thanks. Dan

No, it's not that simple.

You have to be able to turn the blade around as well so that lovely curved shape is hitting the air the right way.

Also if it has a modern brushless DC motor (I don't think that one does) it will not run backwards when you reverse the polarity anyway.

And even if it is an older style brushed DC motor, often the brushes are offset at an angle to the commutator to prolong their life and if you run it backwards you severly shorthen its life.

Good quality ones are sold as specifically either push or as pull for those reasons.

Just get a Metro one, works well, costs next to nothing and fits a treat.

I probably have a metro one if you need it. If you want I'll check I didn't throw it away.

I use a metro fan bolted on the outside of the side rad. No mechanical fan.
It's very efficient at cooling the water.

Pros: Very quick warm up.

Cons: In summer the fan will be switching on and off quite often. Even on the motorway if you are behind a truck the lack of airflow will cause the fan to come on. No problem though if the fan is heavy duty enough to be on a lot

Thankyou for the replies and ideas I went for a revotec fan that fits between the inner wing and radiator. It is meant to replace the mechanical fan. I would love to get rid of the mechanical one for the noise more than anything! It comes with thermostat switch etc and an overide switch so shouldn't be any issues. If I find I have to fitthe mechanical one back on to aid cooling then it's no biggie. I will let you know how it goes *smiley*.

Thanks. Dan

I fitted a revotec last summer with a 2 core rad, tried it without mechanical fan but ran hot.Refitted mech fan and it worked fine as an auxillary fan only needed in trafic. But now with less than 800 miles the fan motor has failed, anybody else any problems with these.
