Morning all,

I'm planning to put 2 breathers on my rocker cover for a turbo build, using the metro turbo slanted rocker cover. Just "mocked" it up and found I have at most, 65mm clearance between the cover and the bonnet, so my initial plan may be no good!

I have access to a mill and lathe (but not an AC welder), so was planning to make a pair of the part in the photograph, mill 2 flat spots on the cover and bolt them on, then I guess use 2 90 degree bends to keep it shallow, although now I know I have such little room I'm now looking at alternatives!

The search on here brought up someone who used a banjo fixing which seemed to work, the take-off would be smaller than what I intended but with a pair I should be fine, but does anyone know what clearance is like underneath the rocker cover and the rockers, as I imagine the banjo will protrude into the rocker area quite a way? Or would I be better to just use the banjo, but just remove as much of the bolt as possible?

I intend to be running 1.3 roller tip rockers and would like the breathers mounted towards the back of the top face of the rocker cover. Or does anyone have any other ideas? I'd rather not mount them on the sides of the cover though :)

Thanks all!

Just put one breather on the clutch side and one on the rear, then get somone to weld them on. leave the fins on the top.

As rick says, worked fine for me...

also to help breathing, grinding out a 'baffle' section on the inside of the transfer case helps,
below the breather,
as once its all built up there's not alot of breathing space there.

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

I'd still rather do it without welding it if possible, any other suggestions?

Cheers Rubicon, I just assumed the standard breather would be fine as is!

If you have access to a lathe you could turn the pipe stub. then drill and tap the rocker cover.

I left a little flance on the stub breather and fixed it to the side of the rocker cover with three 4mm screws

Tadge, that's pretty much what I had in mind but on the top face, did you not have an issue with the slight curve on the face?

dig-mini, I like the idea but I don't think I would be able to get sufficient thread to make it grip nicely without leaking!

May just end up putting them on the back face in the end :( At least I'll have plenty of room!

No problem with the Metro cover I used.

Evening again,

I've made a few take-offs and mounted them on the top face as per the picture, would I be better to have them both running to a catch tank, or pipe the breather from the drop gears to one, and the other outlet to the catch tank? I read a thread on here saying that the drop gears would flick oily mist up the breather and so the mist would "settle" in the rocker cover?

Secondly, I made a distributor blanking plug as well, would it be beneficial to have a breather on that too?

Cheers!
