When I come to fit together my block and gearbox I found that the ARP main studs/nuts on both outer bearing caps foul the gearbox casing to the tune of about 4-5mm.

I presume some of you have encountered this before... is it just a case of grinding space for them or has someone got any helpful advice on the best ways to deal with this?

Do different gearbox cases have different designs in the affected areas? (mine is an early one...)

Cheers..

A bit of tig welding is also required as you'll grind through

I seriously doubt it!

That is quite revealing. The nuts on the studs on that website are 12points, mine are 6 points and seem to be a bit longer. With the washers too makes them a lot longer.

I'm thinking of keeping the washers on the centre main to prevent the nuts eating into the cap over time and doing without washers on the front and rear ones, allowing me to shorten the studs in the lathe. As it stands I'll be removing a lot of material to get them to fit, way more than on the site link above. I might also visit the local fasteners place and see if they have any good tensile nuts that are shorter.

I'm guessing that they won't as I'm sure there must be some relationship between stud material, diameter, thread type and nut length.

Im pretty sure you can buy the multi piontnuts seperatley from an ARP dealer ( swiftune / Arrow components )

Mine had the 6 points, they were massive. They're in the toolbox along with the studs lol.

No way was I grinding the gearbox casing to make them fit. Std bolts do actually work just fine.
