hello chaps and suggestions please

got a merc sprinter 311 cdi that blew its injector out before xmas, its had its injector reseated (twice) and its still blowing past (think the heads cracked down in the injector hole recess next to the locator bolts thread)

its not really worth getting fixing, a new head, or engine would be more than its worth, as its just my race van for the bikes, so was thinking.....

......how about pouring some chem metal/no more nails/a guiness shit/epoxy resin down and fill up the hole around the injector as a last ditch cheapo fix?

i figure whatever i use will have to be pretty tough, as itll be under terrific pressure, have to expand a little when it gets hot to stays put and obviously not react with diesel (chem metal seems to be my favorite so far)

so if anyone has any suggestions on what to use, id very much appreciate it

regards
pikey joe

lol, this is one of those rare cases cable ties wont do the trick

basically was gonna glue the injector into it recess completely sealing it in

just dont know what 'glue' to use...

Bathroom sealant would probably do it, but it may well end up smelling like a tramp's armpit.

If you are really going to bodge it properly get hold of some DEVCON or BELZONA. Bodging material for industry, this stuff really is bloody tough, if you can get the area really clean beforehand, and then leave it to cure properly, I reckon you have half a chance.

No idea what these are like, but cant you bodge up some sort of mechanical clamp to hold it down ?

we use polyeurothane sealant (132 at work)it works as a glue and a sealant and sticks anything to anything, may be worth a look.

stevie, mercedes did that bodge at the factory, apparently these things have a habit of sending injectors skyward

tom, that devcon stuff looks like itll do the job nicely, will hunt down a uk stockest and get some ordered

We use scotch weld at work, ridiculously strong stuff!

I vote for a Guiness shit, would have a much more amusing result.

Devcon is good or what about PTFE tape to make the injector a tighter fit

I seriously doubt it!

I know everyone is trying to be helpful, but you said it yourself, the pressures are very high and I dont think any of the usual bodges will do it - sorry.

ptfe tape is a no go, they arent screw in injectors, they just sit in the hole on a copper washer, with a little yoke clamp, like a small a+ dizzy clamp, holding it down into the combustion chamber

can weld as its a steel injector into an alloy head

tadge, you will prob be right, but on a van not worth fixing, whats there to lose?

right, cant find a local stockist for devcon, but that scotch weld stuff looks to be the same/similar imo

just bought this:

will report back after the weekend

So does the clamp not work or what ? Or what leaks ? Is the injector actually coming out ?

And by weld...I was sort of meaning weld right over the top of it...ie melt alloy over it so it cant come out lol

Or maybe even melt a shitload of lead over it after thoroughly cleaning so it makes a good key.

never used it from a tin before so can't advise you on that one, all i can say is that test it first, if you don't get the mix right it'll either set really quickly or it won't go off at all. we get it like this:

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_U...9be7ZMZSJBQRHgl

you stick it in a special mastic type gun and it mixes the 2 solutions together, the only downside is that it's very expensive! *Yes*

originally the clamp snapped, and the injector flew straight out

new clamp etc, but it just wont seal properly, even after the injector seats been cleaned, so were thinking there might be a small crack in the head

welding really isnt an option, it would more likely than not kill the injector

will give the scotch weld a try, fingers crossed
