On a side note, its worth remembering that these components are capable of so much more than what the humble a-series can throw at them. To put it into perspective, i asked for some advice on two different conrod and piston combinations using forged components etc.. A guy did the maths and the conclusion was one combination was 10% better than the other with regards load on the bearings. However both combinations produced similar journal forces (calculated at 10,000rpm) to a bog standard ford pinto at 6500rpm. So add to that the fact you're components are much better, better rods, bearings, rod bolts, you'll be fine

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Well today I went to MED to get a new paddle clutch plate and my flywheel checked for balance. Some how I ended up buying the lastest X lite package that is about 800g lighter including the new pockected alloy back plate that they haven't released yet.

Probibly the most expensive 800g saving on the car, but I just love new shinny stuff. Hopefully I can sell my old one on eBay for about £350 to cover 1/2 the cost.







New head gasket




I'll need to measure up and have another crank spacer made for the new flywheel though.

Ooooffff, are you not worried about the crank fretting with those super light flywheels? I remember Carl mentioning it on another thread?

If you think of Removing 800 grams of rotating mass is the equivalent of 3.2kg from else where it makes the cost slightly easier to stomach

just catching up on projects,,
some serious bits of kit there, that clutch and flywheel is sexual,

i think your weight saving has gone a little far though, i think your supersonic oil will be escaping from the drops *happy* *happy*

I've cut the case in 1/2 so I can lock the flywheel and torque the bolt to 150ft/lb, then I can check the primary gear end-float, with a .400 thou bronze spacer instead of the normal c washer.



Currently set a 10thou, which is MED's recommendation.

I understand the need to bolt the flywheel up to measure the clearance of the spacer, but why do you need the flywheel casing? is it just to lock the flywheel while tightening the bolt?

Did you take a measurement from the flywheel to end of crank using a depth mic/depth dial? It's worth doing so when you bolt it up you can check its position relative to the crank.

Yes that's how I did it with the first flywheel. The 10thou seems slightly high, but once they have been thru a few heat cycles apparently the gap can close by 3-4thou.

This time I used the old smaller spacer to check with a pair of Filer gauges. After 3 times of reinstalling the flywheel it gave the same 10thou.

I was going to say it might creep up the taper, I was going to sugest warming the flywheel when it goes on.
