this doesnt look right to me, im trying to fit a lightened, pre verto flywheel and it doesnt seem to go on far enough for the lock washer to have any effect, is this right?? any advice appreciated. if it isnt correct, i need to get the car back on the road quickly so im thinking of putting on a new standard 1275 verto clutch i have, that should be able to cope with standard boost and while im running in the engine shouldnt it? Std turbo clutch is just ok for standard boost but standard verto clutch i dont think would stand much.

i have tried to tighten it up alex but it doesnt seem to slide onto the crank any further. i think i will have to put a std 1275 clutch on just for the time being, i will hardly be going on boost while running in the engine anyway, just dont want to risk to continue with the pre verto clutch if that isnt correct A-series power! 1972|1310|T3 turbo|Omega pistons|Cantre main strap|Orange clutch diaphragm|AP race plate|Comp pressure plate|Lightened steel flywheel|13-row oil cooler|Vernier duplex timing gear|Phase 2 Piper cam|Green air filter|Hi boost carb needle/spring|2"Stainless exhaust|3"Play mini stainless rear box|Jack Knight s/c 4spd gearbox|Jack Knight s/c drop gears|Silicon coolant hoses|Lumenition HT leads|GAZ lowered height shocks all round|Steel flip-front|Rear safety devices cage|Group 5 arches|6x12 deep dish Minilites|Surf blue/Old english white

Stupid question, but have you fitted the correct key washer?

thanks dave, the c washer is fully on and in the correct place. i tried to fit the flywheel to another crank and it stops near on in the same position. i can see that the c washer fits in the recess in the back of the flywheel but just doesnt seem to slide on any further. which as dave suggests the taper is wrong.

The flywheel MUST be proud of the crank by around 0.25mm (I'd aim for more like 1-1.5mm however!) as a minimum when the flywheel is fully home. I had to machine down the end of my first crank when i fitted my UL fluywheel all that time ago, because the crank and flywheel were at the same level. On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

i will try and get another flywheel sent down, if that doesnt fit then i will have to see about having the crank looked at, oh the joys. just fed up without having the car for so long, i long for the day that the turbo engine runs A-series power! 1972|1310|T3 turbo|Omega pistons|Cantre main strap|Orange clutch diaphragm|AP race plate|Comp pressure plate|Lightened steel flywheel|13-row oil cooler|Vernier duplex timing gear|Phase 2 Piper cam|Green air filter|Hi boost carb needle/spring|2"Stainless exhaust|3"Play mini stainless rear box|Jack Knight s/c 4spd gearbox|Jack Knight s/c drop gears|Silicon coolant hoses|Lumenition HT leads|GAZ lowered height shocks all round|Steel flip-front|Rear safety devices cage|Group 5 arches|6x12 deep dish Minilites|Surf blue/Old english white

I know what you mean... when I was building mine I spent hundreds of hours on it, well it felt like that, without getting anywhere... Keep at it, it's definatly worth it in the end!! alex AlexF |

yeah thats what i keep thinking it will all be worth it, just starting to drag on a bit, but i will keep at it, and as soon as i sort this flywheel prob out then the engine will be in A-series power! 1972|1310|T3 turbo|Omega pistons|Cantre main strap|Orange clutch diaphragm|AP race plate|Comp pressure plate|Lightened steel flywheel|13-row oil cooler|Vernier duplex timing gear|Phase 2 Piper cam|Green air filter|Hi boost carb needle/spring|2"Stainless exhaust|3"Play mini stainless rear box|Jack Knight s/c 4spd gearbox|Jack Knight s/c drop gears|Silicon coolant hoses|Lumenition HT leads|GAZ lowered height shocks all round|Steel flip-front|Rear safety devices cage|Group 5 arches|6x12 deep dish Minilites|Surf blue/Old english white

post up a picture of what your Verto flywheel looked like on the crank (washer removed obviously!!!) That way we'll know if indeed your crank (unlikely) is iffy.

i have two verto clutchs and i cant remember which one was the turbo, obviously there isnt any diameter difference between a 1275 and turbo item, but i can try both to see if there is the same difference between them and the non verto. odd thing is that i saw and drove the metro which the engine came from, and the verto clutch looked ok when it came off. there is however, some slight pitting/corrosion on the crank, only slight, hardly anything, but you can see scoring on the inside of the pre verto flywheel when you try to put it on and take it off. i will try and get some more pics up for you dave, thanks
