I've not been able to get through to my mechanic this evening and this is doing my head in;

I got into the car tonight after a short stop and when it fired up, the traction control, ABS & brake warning lights all came on and the red brake warning symbol is flashing on the DIS in the centre of the clocks. The owners manual is useless and I can't get to use the VAGCOM until tomorrow. This is the second time its done it in the past few days.

Everything seems to be working ok though - fluid fine, brakes work and nothing is near worn.

As a note, it was in last week to get a new steering rack so the front end will have been partially stripped and the steeling column apparently was partially stripped as well.

any ideas?

You don't say what model it is but from what I could find with a quick google search, this problem is quite commonly caused by a broken brake light switch, so check if the brake lights work. The other common cause seems to be a faulty ABS sensor, VAGCOM would tell you that quite quickly. I would suspect it is related to changing the steering rack but I'm not quite sure how.

Shropshire.

I had this with the wife’s A3 over Christmas - took it to Audi and there was nothing wrong. So they reset it, its been fine since.

We hadn’t used the car for a few weeks before it happened and the battery had almost drained - it was harder to crank than usual and when it did fire up the dash was like yours.

So i put it down to a power shortage... not saying its the same issue but something to think about - end of the days its brakes so best to get it looked at.

just had it on the vagcom - apparently it is a fault with the ABS control unit although it has re-set itself so will just wait and see if it comes back - I hope not though as the units sound pricey!

I just get the light on when I;ve been sat in traffic for a while. Think the fluid is over heating. It'll be shouting for a service by this weekend...
