I have a mysterious intermitant loss of power on boost and was wondering if anyone else has this due to a low air charge temperatue??? My ACT guage reads 10degC at the very most before planting the throttle and will sometimes just die under boost, then after backing off it will run fine on and off boost. So for all those that use a ACT guage do you have running problems with readings of 10deg or less???

Sounds more like a problem with fueling to me.
Check the pressure is around 3-4 psi at idle and rises with boost.

If not check the ignition module. TD has written loads of posts on how to test this using a light bulb.

Tony,

Turbocharged cars seem to work just fine over here at -15degrees C or less... I think your problem is elsewhere!

you would have to find it first tone to put the peper on old boy, lol *happy*

hoggy getting there slowly but need to pull the clubby of the road for some bits like rad, couling alternator ect.

any chance you could give mat your co meter so i can use it on my start up, plus your pressure gauge.

did you sort out your dump valve as that could be the problem.

but being new to turbo talk ( well sort of) i cant help there much all mate.

not unless it could be the coil, eg when gasing it the coil is under load and could be getting hot and starting to break down ( as there are under big strain when the foot is applied to the gas peddle) and when you cruise for a bit it will cool down and hey presto you are away again.

i have had some strange things happen with coils in the past but its just a thought.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I have recently solved the cutting out on tick over hoggy, it was a bad connection on the dizzy module. Over the past few months i have replaced module, coil, ign leads, cap and rotor arm. It seems like an ignition problem as it just completely dies, would have thought if fuel it would cough and splutter. That leaves me with the dizzy itself possibly at fault??

Shall leave matt with co meter and pressure guage asap, good luck:):) let us know how you get on.

Hmm Ignitor? I've had one go and it did something quite similar - using the Haynes, go over the coil and trigger coil (in the dizzy) with an ohmmeter and check against the recommended tolerances. A shorted/knackered trigger coil might be able to cope at lower revs but would have odd effects on things as the trigger rate went up (revving).
If this is all fine, go over your plugs (and see the Head Gasket...POP thread that I started erroneously...)

Just a thought,
Ed.

they proberly do if its got engine managment as it will alter the fueling and timing to take account of low temps unlike are minis with out.

Air is air - it really doesn't change that much between -10 and 30 degreesC; certainly not like Tony was asking.
