Ok - been doing a fair bit of research on the actual kits but I'm not convinced on the appearance of some of the guages.

Ideally I wanted an analogue display for appearance but the general consensus it would seem is that the digital display is generally easier to monitor on the move.

My issue is that I'm looking to keep the car with a 'factory' appearance and the gauge is going to sit in the dash next to oil pressure and boost guages (I need to get these too) and I want them all to appear as similar as possible. Also don't want to spend a fortune in the process.

Anyone got any suggestions? any photos of in-car appearance would be great

cheers

Rob

I can't offer any suggestions on "looks", that's down to your preference, but if you don't use the gauge supplied by (or recommended by) the manufacturer of the wideband controller, you have to make sure the one you use has the correct input voltage range to match the controller output.

A lot of the aftermarket "AFR" gauges are 1 - 1.2V to work off narrowband sensors.

Wideband outputs are 0-5V, usually linear, but even then the definition of what AFR is 0V and what is 5V varies. Some are 10 to 20 AFR, some are 9 - 19 and there are probably other variations. So, even with the right 0 - 5V gauge you may have to reset the output calibration table in the controller to match the range of the gauge.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

I really like the looks of the AEM analogue gauges.

Not cheap but look good IMO

They do oil pressure/temp etc etc.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

As above, the aem analogue afr guages come with both a black and white faceplate plus black and silver bezels so you should be able to match it with other guages. I just got the digital one from states for £125 delivered off the pit.

I have one of the aem gauges, very good piece of kit, as above, come with a choice of black or white so you can match it fairly well .

Rod - thanks for the info - I did wonder if I was making more issues for myself buying separately

as for the AEM analogue gauges, I'd be happy with them in principle (particulary the AFR) but the oil and boost guages are a pricey addition- also could only find the analogue AFR kit for the ethanol which as far as i understand doesn't read in the area I need

The lambda sensor is the same, and it does not care what fuel is used ( well, unless you wreck it with leaded fuel )

The only difference in what you see on a gauge, is how the gauge is programmed. But the sensor does the same job regardless.

How about using one of the outputs to run an LCD display? You could have it somewhere discreet, in an old gauge case perhaps?

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I don't know about the other widebands but the innovate lc1 can be programmed to display wideband afrs on a narrowband gauge, so if there is a narrowband gauge that matches your other gauge this is an option, I know greddy and defi both used to do smart analogue afr gauges but there a fortune and NLA so you would need to hunt one down :(
