is 13 bar to high a compression on my turbo mini
I’m running standard mg non turbo pistons
and the head gasket has gone
looking at working the head to reduce presser
i have turbo pistons here but don’t want to take the engine out again
can i get enough out of the head to make this work?

Take it you done a compression test, best work out compression ratio and go for something thats safe for the boost you want to run

bill... i think your 13bar is getting confused with 13psi!!!

but if it isnt i want to see this turbo!!!

I think you are confused. The pressure measured is with a compression tester, mot a boost gauge.

Compression tests and CR are never directly conected, but that would indicate a reasonably high CR. The only way to check is to measure everything.

Ah read through it half squinting and tilting my head his problem is that he has been running 13psi on a standard engine im geussing without an intercooler and his headgasket has gone.

I would work out your compression ratio to start off with, normally you will need to lower the cr when you increase the boost. A little more information would be good

With the head off you can check the combustion chamber volume and also get an idea of piston dish, compression height and bore size. That would get enough info for a compression ratio calculation.

took the head off
standard metro pistons non turbo
and i reworked the head from a standard 21.4 to 25.4 ish
psi is now reading 8 to 8.2 at the plugs
intercooler is now installed but to the side inner guard with a fan blowing at it
is the 8 psi relevant ? many thanks Bill
sorry for sounding like a dingbat but don’t know a lot about this

Some confusion here I think -on my part too !

With the above information I reckon you are about at 9.0:1.

You really want the intercooler in a postion where it will have cold air flowing through it. It sounds to me like you have hot air from the radiator blowing over the intercooler, this will defeat the object of actually having one.
