I've comming up to getting my mini back on the road in march and i've got a rolling road planned for april. In preperation for the session i need to give it a service and make sure i have the right plugs.
The engine spec is
NA 1380
stage 4 (36/31)
1.5:1 roll tip rocker
286 kent cam
omega pistons

trying to remmber the compression ratio... emm i can't

Any way the question is how do i pick which type of sparkplug to use to get the right heat for it??

C/R is probably going to have the largest effect on it, but I would use a 6 and go from there depending how the rr goes.

going by NGK heat ranges...

8's would be too cold unless you have a very powerful ignition system.

6's or 7's would probably be safest bet. You dont mention boost ? so if n/a, 6's would be fine.
Cant really see any benefit of running a hotter plug, as 6's should have no fouling issues on a setup that runs fine

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Spot on with Steve. I used ngk 7s in my 1380 N/a and it was spot on.

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

What sort of ignition system are you using? Depending on which will mean using resistive plugs or not.

There is no reason to use a non-resistive plug.

I'd use 6s.

BPR6ES should do the trick

I agree with Kean. Good all-round plug, fine for your NA 1380 and if turbo go to BCR7ES.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.
