Last year I added the bar as shown to my rollcage, and am wondering whether it actually does anything to act against futher racking, as surely sufficient triangulation against racking will be present anyway due to the original diagonal.

I will be adding a bar between where the legs of the rollcage meet the wheel arch to attatch the harnesses too, and in order to prevent any more weight being added are considering removing the additional diagonal, but before I undo plenty of work that took place a year ago wondered what people thought about removing it.

I would get rid of the ones from the main hoop to wheel arch diagonal as i don't think they are doing anything.

I would replace it with 1 diagonal from the bottom of the main hoop 'B piller' to the top.

Are you doing the cage to any race standards (MSA)?

If you have passengers, use two diagonals. If only the driver, use one diagonal.

Well that's how I see it.

Ive just this weekend added the diagonal i was speaking about. Its close to the back of my seat round my head as i like a far back seating position.

I see the point about adding a brace to the main hoop, but my seat fouls it so couldn't The reason I added the braces from the b pillar to the rear legs is because I saw a crashed mini where the rear leg was all bent in, so thought I'd make it rigid. Though I may replace it for some 32mm tube as opposed to 38mm.

Regarding meeting standards it was a safety devices bolt in cage, but I've welded it in and added various other bars, so it probably doesn't comply now. I hope to enter the DEWS speed series next year, but need to have a chat with the organisers about whether the cars have to meet msa standards for hillclimbs or not.

It won't fall foul of the regs by adding bars, only removing them.

What about welding in a bolt in cage? To be honest its much stronger but you never know what they'll make of it.

You can weld a bolt in cage no problems just so long as you have the correct thickness plates welded to the floor pan under the rollcage feet. This applies to either weld in or bolt in iirc.

Oh bollocks, well I have no idea what thickness plate I welded in underneath, but as its covered by weld no one will ever know!

I dont see how any scrute could actually test what thickness you had put in either. Like you say the edges are covered with weld.

Well its nice to know with a few tweeks to the rest of the car I could take it hillclimbing then. I just kinda assumed I'd modified myself out the mod prod class with the safe but ghetto roll cage!

I've taken some time to consider whats what and decided to make the following tweeks, I did have many more ideas, but I really can't be arsed to hack the cage about anymore so going to do a simple removal or replacement procedure.

I will remove the 38mm cds tube that brace the rear legs to the main hoops and replace them with some 32mm t45 ones, 1.5kg saved which is better then nothing. Or just remove them completely and save 3.2kg.

Still not quite made my mind up.
