Hi all, i no longer need a big car as im only working locally so the A4 is making way - was thinking of replacing this with a cooper s MINI.

Fancy one of the 1st Gen facelift models 05/06, does anyone have any experience of owning one? things to look for when buying etc.

I bought one for my girlfriend about 6 months ago, hers is a 54 plate with the later 167bhp engine (supercharged). If you have a look I asked the same thing and there is a thread. However in summary check for full history, they should all have this due to the 100 pound tlc pack from new that gave 3 yes servicing. Check for accident damage obviously, also the electric power steering pumps can cause issues.
I've taken lisas car for a couple of bloody good beatings round the lanes when she isn't looking, I have to say I really am impressed with it, quite stiffly sprung for a STD car and really does handle very well, even compared to 205 GTI's I have which are praised highly by the notifying press to be a good handling hatch.
They are pretty thirsty if you drive them hard, they are also crying out for an LSD but I'm certainly not fitting one to the gf's car. Final thing, if you have a decent budget hold out for a good one, we viewed 4 mediocre examples before we found the one we now have, there is a lot of crap out there, but they are the sort of car that some will have cherished and looked after, so try and find one of these.

Check all the electrics thoroughly its there week point even from a dealer

Cooper S is the only BMW MINI worth having imo

Yes mate - Quattro 2.0t

Fuel was fine when i was using it on a run but not so good for the 4 miles a day i use it now..
