Hi guys, I may need to collect a rolling shell from Acton for a proposed project, but I don't have a trailer at my disposal.

I have a vehicle capable of towing 1.5 tons available to me, and am looking at my options. I could hire a trailer, but I'd likely have to hire it for a full weekend due to the long trip to collect the shell as I doubt I'd get the trailer back within office hours on a Saturday, which could be costly.

Does anyone in or around Lancashire have a trailer or the ability to move a shell for reasonable money? I fully expect it to be a full day of a job - its just a pain that the shell is so far away from me.

My other thought was to tow the shell with an A-Frame but its such a grey area in the law - the shell has no engine, little interior etc..., no MOT or Tax, but has a pair of subframes and a set of wheels on it. I was wondering if it could be towed as an unbraked trailer as long as no registration marks were visible due to it not being functional as a motor vehicle at the moment. Anyone have any experience with this side of things?

Towing half a car on an a frame is asking for a tug in my opinion, not worth the hassle especially if it happens miles from home. I have a trailer, near the m1 too so it is on your way down.

Thats what I was worried about with the A Frame - if it were closer I'd be more tempted to risk it.

Would you be willing to lend the trailer out Tom? I'd be happy to pay for it, or contribute to server funds or both - would rather the money went to the forum/forum member than to a trailer hire firm.

I did this a couple of weeks ago



worked quite well and you dont have to tow an empty trailor to where you are going so saves a bit of time.

yeh, i got weekend trailer hire for 35.00 for a ten footer at Barlows in Croston.

What about Jim Brindle at race engineering, he has a trailer if you ask him nicely?
