Following the fitment of megajolt, starting it on the edis only for the first time the engine made a rather horrifying metal clanging noise. Now I did test for TDC yesterday and left the plug out over night, but I've put a magnet in through the opening thinking a nut or something may have dropped in. But I hanky got anything out. The only other thing can think of is the timing chain? I fitted a sensor bracket from trigger wheels.

Any suggestions?

I think the head is coming off if I can't find anything obvious....

I did think that, but it sounds like it's coming from inside the engine... I've not been brave enough to leave it run long enough to look at that!

The engine ran well on the dizzy well before the megajolt/edis fitting.

I was thinking the same .....

there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.

oh dear, hope its not done too much damage when you tear it down, it may have just got lodged between the cam and not fell in the box.

Just been and checked - as I've been so bloody stupid. It was still there, some was on my side, but there is damage to the drive at the cam end but the cam is fine and the lobes either side look fine too. But I'll have to do an oil and filter change now as there is going to be metal bits in there now. Bugger. One little thing so many consequences...

What a shitter Alastair.

I have an inspection mirror on a stick if you can get it in through the dizzy hole.

Do you think it's done any damage to the gears ?

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

Not driven it Richard, I'm hoping (it's a big hope!) that the metal would have found it's way to the oil at the sump. I'm going to change the oil today and insert a magnet into the plug hole in the hope I can remove most of the bits. That or I pop out the engine, turn it upside down and shake the bits out!!!

If it's shagged it's not the end of the world, I have a spare engine at my unit.

proper shitter mate, the problem with that if the bits are of any real size they wont necessaries find there way out, the inside of the box is sectioned off by the various walls

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

ive changed out the oil today, and flushed it and got some bits out by inserting a magnet into the sump!

im hoping that its going to be ok, but only time will tell. the actual dizzy drive was still in one piece but with damage to the worm drive. I dont know how the bits came off but i hope in small bits! It ran for about 5 seconds before i killed it. long enough though.

runs with 75 psi cold dropping to 45 at idle warm.

No enough to make it complete! I recon some of the bits are sat on the gears ready and waiting to make more noise when I drive it.

Does anyone know how the gears move in relation to each other when the car goes forward? I'm just thinking which way it will be best to go when I drive it for the first time. I don't really want bits getting between 2 gears. If I can figure out the best direction to move on the first go the bits should drop to the bottom and not get crushed...

I'd be worried about smacking the crank or a rod, providing a stress raiser for a fatigue crack.

I'd spilt it from the box to inspect the damage.

Bad luck though, I had a major panic a while ago as to whether I'd left the dizzy drive in, lucky I didn't

as soon as you start the engine the gears will spin the way that will spit any bits upwards rather than draging the bits in,

If the bits you havent found are small i'd go for it if its a std box.

It is a standard box, it's also unknown to me, i got it with a car I bought about 5 years ago and this Is the first time I've used it. So I'm going to say fuck it and use it! If it goes bang then I'll rebuild it and the engine while I'm at it. So it's win win in my eyes, it either works or I get a new engine!!!
