Wasnt me who tightened them last either. Im going to have to get another pair of nuts to use as locknuts to prevent that happening again...

That should be a locking nut, then it would not work loose.

Take this in the spirit that is intended, but I suggest either you get your car checked by someone who knows what they are on with, or otherwise go round it and check every nut bolt and washer.

The car has just always been like that with things, when i bought it, there was one bolt holding the bellhousing engine mount to the subframe.... *indifferent*

in fact, i dont think theres much i havent replaced in the just over a year ive owned the car. Nevermind though eh, its all a good learning curve.

Also thought to myself that they should have been nylock nuts when i was changing the tie rods..

and you never thought to fit some?

At least the big fat washer is still there. Seen so many that dont, just have the thin cup washer instead.

Dont have any to hand Colin, only changed them yesterday. Ill have to get hold of some in the week. In fact my spare nut and bolt supply is very scarce.
Because i dont use the car very often i didnt notice until the other day when i went to pauls to go to keans to collect an intercooler, and because id refurbed the 8.4s before id thought it was those causing the problem as i had no knocking etc. Should really have checked beforehand, but im not sorry about parting with the money for some 7.5s. Now that ive cured the leaks *tongue*
Note to self: check things more thoroughly before you spend money where it isnt needed.

Somewhere around Swindon

you found the problem before you visited the undergrowth so thats a result if nothing else
Would be worth going round the rest of the car as if the previous owner was that careless i doubt they only did it once

Well, the last person to touch these wernt the previous owner, it was the fella who helped me do the 998 - 1275 engine swap. Although i trusted him, and i did check the engine mounts. ill have to check anything else that was undone in the process as some of you have suggested.

You should have seen the state of the tie rod bushes and bottom arm bushes. Ill see if i can find a pic of the bottom arm bush rements..

Warwick.

Nothing wrong with a bit of a spanner check every now n then, not as easy with the car on the floor rather than a ramp though. came across quite a few looseys checking things over

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

That should be a locking nut, then it would not work loose, ..... as tom says you could also place a little "shake proof" strength locktite on the threads as well to make sure

Bottom arm pin decided it didnt want to stay in anymore today when i was about 5 mins away from home. The nut AND pin had no thread, they didnt look very clever. Luckily a mate lives 10 mins away and bought a new nut and pin down for me and 5 mins later i was back on my way. Very good job i wasnt doing anything more than about 30mph. Kinda shat myself.

Im beginning to think my mini just doesnt like me. The only damage done was to the wing-front panel join, but it doesnt matter cos its all being cut off soon. The washer was stuck to the subframe, the nut had somehow fallen ONTO the subframe and the pin was just hanging out. Looked down at the wheel and my first thought was balljoint. Im having too many lucky escapes.... *indifferent*

For fucks sake, stop driving this car before you kill yourself or someone else.

Shit like this is not funny, it is not the car that doesn't like you, it is that you or previous owners have done shit substandard work and repairs to it.

They are not lucky escapes, they are warnings to get your head out of your bloody arse and get it fucking sorted before you kill someone.

Realy does sound like the whole car needs a spanner check, last time I did it too mine, a bottom arm locking nut was loose.

Turbo parts collector at the moment, almost ready.
