Going through some old photos recently I came acroos a picture a a device that was supposed to have been produced and marketed in small numbers in the eighties.

It was made close to where I live, in South Bucks, and was aimed at sidecars aficionados as it must have been quite a beast to ride. Some of the magazines of the ers tested it and all were less than happy about the gearchange. This involved solenoids and levers so that it could be foot operated like a normal bike gearbox.

Anyone remember anything about this ?.

Are you talking about a H patern box being operated by by the solenoids?

does look like an auto, that would make for an easy sequential gear change too.

Must have weighed a ton!

You may be right, my memory is not what it was and that cover on the RHS suggests an auto.

I have remembered what it was called,an "Austel"

There IS an auto flywheel housing and no clutch arm arm the "sump" area is identical to an auto.

I'd imagine a lot of TM users have never seen an auto?

Near Paris - France

In France we had some BFG that is a bike with a Citroen GS engine (flat four air cooled).
Comes in 1015 to 1300.

There is alos an MF with a Citroen Visa engine (652 cm3) but at 32 HP, who would want a bike like that ?

Rusty by nature

I remember that bike with the GS engine - seemed a much more sensible idea to me --- at the time
