Hi all,

This my first post and I think i know the answer but thought i'd ask..... I've just received a second hand R5 intercooler and purely by chance I spotted a tiny crack on both the top rear corners. Hopefully the picture i've attempted to attach will show what i mean (there's light creaping through in each corner).

Before I ask for my money back, is this a problem?, should it be completely sealed? worth using or not?

Thanks. Ade

It needs to be sealed or you will have a boost leak.

Hopefully a picture has been uploaded and you'll see what i mean. There's a similar crack/hole the other end two.

Hard to see clearly, but looks to be a split in the main core tube! Not good! As a test fill it with water and then block both main hose inlets off, if water comes out of those splits it is goosed and you should return from whence it came!

Thanks for the responses. If i look through the inlets into the unit I can see daylight coming through in both corners opposite. It's not a lot but it's clearly not sealed. You've answered my question thanks....i'll be after my money back.

This is a classic R5 intercooler fault. Our car ran like that for a while, but it is not great.

The tank brace has also split from the flange.

Overboost, poor mounting, either way, it's ready to blow apart.

Quite common really.
