Currently got some 13x7s on my mini, but love the look of 10s and every goes on about how much better the handling is so i'm gonna get me some! :)

I'm running a 3.1Fd and a GT box at the moment but when i go to 10s i was thinking of getting a lower final drive to compromise the top speed as i don't want it to be revving the nuts off it when i'm on the motorway.

So just wandering what size wheels are you running? what final drive and what rpm your doing at 70mph?
thanks!

When mine goes back on the road it will on 10's with a 3.1 diff don't know what that works out to be at 70.

13x6's Theres no need for 13x7's they just give 13" wheels bad press

My last wheels were 10x7 mb's and my new wheels will most likely be the same size.

Cheers Ross.

10 x 7 with a 165 tyre - bad.

You'll need a 195 tyre ideally for that width.

Betwix Harrogate and York

7x13 on the hillclimber 4.2 diff 7k is 100mph

5.5x13 on the Sprint, 2.9 diff, 5k 100mph.

6x12s are a great size as you can fit the larger brakes and you get a decent sized tyre sidewall.

The tyre side wall gets stretched like the vw boys like, you loose the side wall flex and won't handle well.

A 7" rim isn't over all 7". where the tyre sits it's wider, let's say 8" which is 203.2mm. So you can see how stretched the 165mm tyre will be.

I'm sure someone will now say how great their 7x10 wheel with 165 tyre's are but I don't agree

I'm going to be running 10x5.5 force racing wheels. Prevously had 13x6, they worked really well and didn't create any issues with tramlining unlike 13x7. The 165-70-10 seem to have a lot of tyre roll but do look the part. I actually found 13,s with 50 profile the steer slot more direct and sharper. With the 10,s the car moves around alot more but is slightly more predictable. Is the 10" thing a myth. I guess there is alot more tyre choice of tyres for 13,s. Lightweight 13's maybe for my next project.

Rubbish. The 7" measurement is taken from inside edge to inside edge, the seat for the tyre bead maybe recessed a couple of mill but nowhere near that.

Bill sollis (some say he knows a thing or two about minis that handle) said that my car running 6 3/4 x 10 and 165 tyres was one of the best handling road cars he has ever driven.

I would like to know what you base your statement on? have you run 7x10 wheels on your car?

I'm with wolfie, can you explain your experiences and how you came to the conclusion that a 7" WHEEL AND 165 TYRES IS BAD,opps caps lock.
also without wanting to sound ageist can you tell us your age, as this is usually a good indication on how mjush experience you've accumulated in your years on this fair earth.

Gobshite that posts wank videos.

I see where he is coming from in logic, but the information backing it makes no sense.
His main point is stretched tyres are bad for handling which if you fun them to the extreme that the VW boys do is usually correct.
But in this instance the wheel has got magically and inch bigger therefore adding a massive amount of stretch to the tyres. As surposed to the 10mm difference that the 165 on 7" has

Not disagreeing but would someone enlighten me as to why the smaller 165s work better then the 175 which are a much closer width to the rim and would this apply to all wheel sizes ie 165s on 13x7s?
