Guys thought i would post up this quick thread...

Being a forum that is performance driven and is without a doubt the best forum in its field ! We all know what it costs to get our goal BHP's or 1/4 mile times....


Last week i met a remarkable chap who is restoring a piece of British History... the vehicle was tragically destroyed on 4th January 1967 when Donald Campbell was trying to break his previous record and exceed the 300mph barrier !

between 2000 and 2001 Bluebird was raised and the restoration work began and it has been a labour of love for Bill Smith and his team ever since.

I was lucky enough to meet Bill and speak with him, i have made a donation to the project so thought i would do the right thing and Pay It Forward....

Bluebird will be fully running when completed and not just a static display... its tragic that the boat is remembered for its failure rather than its achievements !

and click on donate....there is also a shop selling clothing a prints of which the proceeds go onto the Bluebird restoration fund.... all the people that are restoring her are volunteers so this is one of the rare occasions where all the dosh donated goes where it should.

Yeah i saw this a few months ago and have checked out the site a couple of times.... Great project and dedication shown to use everything and keep everything as original as possible, but i just cant help thinking that both Bluebird and the Late Great Donald Campbell should have been left to rest where they were - i know Campbell himself often said if he died then he wanted to be left and his body unrecovered.
As i said, not knocking the project or the skills as they are impressive; as you say the boat itself is a fantastic piece of British engineering, I just personally think it should have been left where it was.

i am going to get a boiler suit too.
