I have just bought a 1971 Mk3 Mini, it is curently an 850 with a magic wand gear lever.

My question is this, how easy is it to fit a later Mk3> Gear linkage to the early type tunnel (Same as Mk 1) to be able to fit a later type engine i.e A+ Turbo.

Also the sills have been plated up very badly and rotted away, Should it have the early 4 vent sills or the later 6 type?

I think it should have the 6 vent sills. You should be able to fit the remote type linkage easy enough, as thats what the coopers had. You'll obviously need to cut a hole through the tunnelnear the cross member though.

Cheers for that, There is a hole cut out for the remote gearstick thats got a blanking plate screwed to the floor, is that normal?

I want to get it looking right for its year, not goin to the extremes of you though Matty.

Yeah thats normal. All you need is the magic wand blanking plate then.

Haha, its a slippery slope!

Yeh I no, was looking at them, and the gear gater and the metal strip that holds the gear gater on and etc etc.......

The Reason I asked about the sills was, in the somerford panel catalogue they list: "4 flute sill, 1960-71" & "6 Flute Sill, 1971 on"

The other reason was the Mk1 Style floor like yours, but my old 1976 Late Mk3 Mini had the newer style floor/tunnel with 6 Flute sills!
