I'm planning to fit a fiat rad after seeing some of the converions on here, i just wanted to know what size inlet/outlet pipes they have? i think there 1 1/4 inch (32mm) not i'm not sure/

Its so i can get a header tank made up with the right size pipes.

32mm

you don't want a 32mm outlet on your header tank though

Around half an inch seems normal, that's how I plan to plumb mine in.

ok thanks i wasn't really sure, does it matter for the inlet on the tank though?

i was planning on running the tank next to the thermostat housing and having a short hose straight into the tank.

EDIT: very similar to Nic's setup actually,

Top (bleed) hose into the tank needs to be small and bottom (suction to pump) needs to be bigger.

About 1/2" to 5/8" for the bottom connection as Andy says but only about 1/4" into the top.

Look at a Standard Metro (or MPI Mini) setup and you will see the top "hose" from the thermostat housing is very small.

Otherwise lots of hot coolant would pass through the header tank un-cooled.

The top connection is really just to allow the steam bubbles and other vapour to pass to the top of the header/expansion tank and slowly condense there.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

I have one based on the second one down in this link, hose sizes are as Rod describes. He's moved the bracket for me to a more suitable location for my car.

The bottom outlet will be T'eed into the bottom hose after the rad and the small top one will go to the small vent pipe on the thermostat cover.
