Had this bi fold door fitted 4metres long, 5 x 800mm leaves which concertina to leave a huge opening which will be nice in the summer but it doesnt seal against draughts.
They have fitted all the latest seals and said that's as good as it gets.

What would you do?

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Where are the draghts coming from?? And surely if your not happy with it and its not up to scratch you shojld be anle to get your moneyback or something.

Is it one of thoes doors that are like sliding doors which slide accross then open as one door??

There is a thing with trading standards called 'fit for purpose' . Its a door, its supposed to keep the outside outside. Thay would have to sort it properly or give you a refund or something.

Citizens Advice will be the next stop but Trading Standards arent interested they say the only deal with businesses.

This is a conservatory build which just seems to be crap. Problem after problem. They have been out 3 times over a 5 month period to try to get it right, the original contracted completion date of end of November is totally out of the window

I seriously doubt it!

This is what we have ( small pic at bottom).

http://www.smartsystems.co.uk/products/4/1...ofold-4000.html

5 x leaves, middle one opens in as a normal door or 3 fold up one way and 2 fold up the other.
Where the hinges are on the outside there is no seal so cold air comes in, goes round between the frame and door then comes into the conservatory through the inner hinges where there is no seal, but you can still feel the draught where there are seals.
Whats annoying too is, as you can imagine theres a lot of glass and I paid £15 a metre to have it argon gas filled between the panes to make them thermally efficient then they let cold in everywhere else

Well no but thats what a door does, but they have known all along that the conservatory is having underfloor heating so surely they should have let me know the two arent compatible

I seriously doubt it!

I take it that this schematic is the schamatic of the door hinge mechanism, and if I am not mistaken, there looks to be two vertical seals that should perhaps run from top to bottom. This the relies on the top and bottom horizontal seals and the locking mechanism to create a draught tight seal.

Which part of the door do you think the draught is coming from?

Have you researched the performance levels quoted at the end of the web page to see what they suggest the air tightness should be?

Sprocket, above and below the hinge in that diagram are rubber seals/gaskets and you can physically feel the draught from between those seals from 2" away also the draught comes in at the hinges, as you can see there is no seal between them.

Metroturbo, I have just emailed them to see if they can explain those quotes as I cannot find anything on the web myself.

Also through researching this Ive just realised that they have supplied and fitted the wrong fucking doors anyway.
The cill should be flush with the inner floor and patio as in their showroom, when they fitted it we had a 100mm step, so they took out the doors, cut down the bricks (bodge) and refitted the doors lower to get them flush when all the time the website states a high or low cill line is available.

Getting more annoyed now

I seriously doubt it!

This is totally incorrect, Trading Standards are there to deal with consumer complaints against businesses.

What they don't get involved in is 'business to business' disputes.

So I'd strongly suggest you approach Trading Standards again (my Wife works as a Trading Standards Officer, so I can say this with some confidence).

Money back on the grounds its not fit for the purpose sold, if it is not up to the standard of a normal door they should have told you the pitfals before you ordered it.

Tell them you have told everyone on tubo minis! That should have more effect than a newspaper! *smiley*

Paul, I'd suggest you get in touch with a local building surveyor. From what you describe there way be more to it than just the door itself and a correctly structured report could be your best weapon

Cheers novarally, Ill get back onto them.

A quick list of problems, bare in mind this is a £13,000 conservatory

The floor is the wrong height,
They used the wrong bricks,
They supplied the wrong glass, some should have been obscured and all should have been argon filled but they have changed this at their expense now.
They supplied the wrong roof but they have changed this now,
It seems now they have supplied the wrong doors and the dont seal,
The under floor damp coarse is very poorly done and they have put nails through it to try to rectify it!?
General poor workmanship where things dont line up and theyve covered it up with mastic,
It was contracted to be finished a month before the VAT increase so we could decorate, furnish, floor it and get the blinds and furniture at 17.5% instead of 20%
The list is massive but thats some idea of how bad it is

I seriously doubt it!
