I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder. On 15th Aug, 2011 robert said:

Speaking as someone without the theoretical knowledge, I cant see how you can give an oil cooled turbo too much oil unless the seals are passing the oil, or the drain cant cope. |

Do you have a problem with turbo life? If mine does 30k miles that will be 10 years at a minimum. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

Unless you have an issue with oil passing the turbine seal, you do not need a restrictor.

I was going to say that my GTI with a Turbonetics T4 definitely had an issue with too much pressure and needed a restrictor, but as stevieturbo mentions above, mine was a ball bearing setup so that could have been the issue. IMO if the turbo was designed to use one, use it, If not, like in the case of the metro turbo it wasn't so don't, it's simple mate. Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

I have heard of people using them with eBay special turbos to make them last a bit longer! |

I asked turbo dynamics the very same question regarding a gt2854r quote They do have a built in restrictor but we work on the rule, if you are running more than 4 bar of oil pressure you should use a 0.060" restrictor as well or over 6 bar of oil pressure a 0.040" restrictor. If you have high oil pressure (its best to have it checked) I would certainly run with a restrictor to minimize the chances of any oil leakage! |

Garrett is the only brand of BB turbo to have the restrictor built in though.

Have you tried a different turbo surfer? Or double checked your exhaust guides? If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |
