Been having problems with my engine smoking. Block, head and turbo have not long been rebuilt. It smokes when it has been standing on tickover for a while but the smoke is grey. It also does it when it is on overun and when you rev it, the smoke is still grey but has a hint of blue to it now and then. Had it running n/a but still the same. So i took it back to the place where i had it rebuilt (toovey) he just took a spark plug out and said borewash, put the turbo back on and get it set up. I then took it a part and found oil in the exhaust port. To get a closer look i took the head off and could see oil all around the valve guide and on the valve stem where it goes into the guide. Phoned up toovey and they said borewash again. Taking the head to show them this week but i thought i would see what other people think. Hopefuly i have attached two pictures for you to look at. Honing marks can still be seen. Should you have any side to side play in the pistons. Another thing i could see are small traces of oil around the valve stems where they meet the valve guide in a couple of the inlet ports and on one of the other exhaust valve. When i took the turbo off there was no traces of oil in the manifold and people have followed me and it didn't smoke at all. It just started as i got close to almost doing my 1000miles of running it in. Thanks for your time.

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

No pictures, but it sounds like the problem we had on our van.

The turbo was creating a vacuum and sucking oil up the exhaust valve guides and into the turbo. In our case the valve guides where slack.

If you have the head off, it will be easy to see if it is bore wash or not.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

If you are using the attachment feature in the 'post' dialogue, it does not like any picture file with .JPG, it needs to be lower case .jpg, then it will upload. also worth making sure the file you are trying to upload is a reasonable size, nothing humungous and nothing tiny.

Looks like the guides to me dude.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Sounds like valve guides and valve stem seals to me.

Worth buying the brown valve stem seals from Minispares Centre. Fit them to all 8 valves.

Not cheap but very very good.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

best bit of advise I can give is, never take an expert as being right,

at least on here you can get several opinions,

I assume the vertical lines on the bors are just water?
