I'v been looking into buying a 1275 block to start off with so I can get cracking on my turbo dream, but nothings really come up thats really interested me.

This came up today and I'm quite keen on it, mainly because its already built, and it appears to already have a mirage manifold or a home brew equivalent, meaning I won't have to cut the bulkhead.

Its also really close to me at uni.

The bid starts at £750 but what do you reckon would be a ceiling price to pay for such an engine and spec.

The spec is vague. It really would be a punt to buy it even at the starting price without much better information.

You need to know:

What crank
What rods
What pistons
What head
What "new turbo"
etc etc

Why does it mention new piston rings but not new pistons for a 4K build?

What condition is the gearbox in?

Who built it? and when?

best start from scratch from a standard 1275, unless you have proof of what your getting.

righto. I gathered the information given was rather vague which didn't fill me with confidence.

On a separate note, by starting a build from scratch, is there a guide out there I can follow as a step by step kind of thing. (I'v got no engine building/stripping experience)

that really doesn't give you enough decription or evidence to spend £750. if its near by maybe arrange to go and have a look and go for a spin before its removed.

i think you could pick up most of the parts you need for less than £750 then build it up

look through that site there's a lot of information on here on what to do to go turbo.
You could always get one built if you really don't have the confidence.
