hi all, i need to tax my car soon but according to the dvla website i have to do it on the 1st of the month if im correct. And of course you need MOT and insurance which means i have to wait til the around the 20th when my insurance starts, so can i tax my car from that date? or do i have to wait til the 1st of may?

heres the extract "If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply."

You should be able to tax it straight away, but you will have to pay from the start of the month so you will pay a whole month just for the last 10 days of it on the road.

You can tax any time, bit it will always start from the first of the month.

so i have to pay a bit extra for those 10 days?

Not quite, if you tax it on the 20th april then the disc will start from the first of april, so if you buy a 6 month disc it will have 5 months 10 days left on it.

no you have to pay for the full month
say you tax it on the 20th of april, your disk will start from the 1st of april and the 20 days are 'lost'

dam it! thanks for clearing that up guys i was panicking. Losing 20days doesnt bother me i would put 12 months on but cant afford it atm.

i lost 27 days when i first past my test, thursday 27th jan, taxed the next day i didnt care lol i was free :) i also did over 100 quid in fuel that weekend
