I've just stripped my T3 turbo and noticed that there is no gasket between the two pieces in the picture below

Should there be a gasket in between or not

I've never had one apart but would say so, would leak awful if it didn't.

If in doubt... flat out! The words of a true legend

They do seem to be available on ebay, I just find it strange that mine didn't have one

Should there also be one on the other side which attaches to the down pipe elbow, as again mine didn't have one

I'd expect a steel shim gasket for both of them. I no he t2 uses steal shim gaskets for every face

I just reconed my turbo and it didn't have the 5 stud gasket but did have the 3 stud one. Like you I asked my supplier if there should be one and he said most T3's don't use one.

Im pretty sure none of mine have had one between the exhaust and wategate housings. But there should be one for the elbow.

I've got some spares for this and fir the manifold if you want them.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

No gaskets required.

They are two totally flat machined surfaces and gaskets are not fitted.

That gasket is for another purpose, and even at that it looks like a complete piece of shit. I wouldnt put it near any turbocharger.

Optional. Normally it will have a pressed steel gasket. But again, as long as the two mating flanges are flat, you wont need a gasket.

As an update to this thread:-

I have realised that there cannot be a 5 holed gasket between the turbine housing and the wastegate housing because when the wastegate valve is in the closed position it is exactly level with the gasket surface
If a gasket was put inbetween, the wastegate would not be able to seal closed against the turbine housing

A gasket could probably be used if the turbo did not have an internal wastegate

So I've answered my own question

Thanks for the input guys
