Hi decided with the petrol prices getting stupid its time to get rid of my V6 daily and just get something that is going to be cheap to run then i can put more money into the mini, so was wondering what vehicles people would recommend i was looking at something like a Citroen C1 or Kia Piccanto something just really boring but cheap to run, i did look at diesels but im unsure with costs of buying and how much id save, any opinions would be appreciated i was looking at about a £6k budget, and just want as cheap motoring as possible.

If you want to put more money into your Mini, why not slash your budget to £3k and spend the other £3k on the Mini.

£3k will get you a modern ish Turbo diesel hatch, Golf/SEAT/Skoda/Focus etc, will do 55mpg driven sensibly.

Yeah my bro sold a 306 hdi estate on a 51 plate for £1700.

Cheap, sips fuel and has room for a mini engine in the boot!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

That would give you £4300 to spend on the mini.

my a4 has 143k on it now, costs me £50 to service it and £75 a corner for tyres. it never goes wrong and uses very little fuel.

One thing i was thinking about was something i could use as a tow vehicle for the mini when i do more track stuff so wasnt sure if a car or van like a berlingo or something along them lines would be better

I looked into this a few months back instead of running the audi all the time. While on paper the cheaper citroen, pugs and toyotas are low tax, high mpg, 100% first year tax deductable as well they are slow and in reality were going to be frustrating as a daily driver when, lets be honest, you are going to probably spend most of your time behind the wheel of this rather than the mini.

I'd go with what the others are suggesting; budget on £3-4k will get you a half decent TD hatch with a bit of performance, good mpg and a bit of fun. Reality of it will be it likely wont depreciate as much either and you won't need to keep using main dealers for servicing

Main dealer parts for 10k oil and filter change, didn't need the rest. One more service and I'll have enough oil left over to have enough for a full change *smiley*

I also use the main dealer for the bits for my Audi and my mothers VW Polo. The bits are not really any more expensive than the factors, but with the massive advantage that they are always correct and always fit, plus you get the other bits and bobs such as sump plug washer and any clips etc at the same time as opposed to just making do with the old ones.

Andy I don't know where you go, but the VW dealer in Wickersley obviously carry the filters etc for the A4 as they are the same as a Passat, but they will also order in any other Audi stuff you may want- useful for me as its 3 miles up the road as opposed to a 1hr30min round trip to Gilders in Sheffield.

I usualy call in at Leeds Audi as they are only 2 minutes of my commute. Have used the wickersley vw place before, but they didn't even have brake pads in stock. Also a bit of a treck for me as they are the opposite side of town...

Is your's the 2.5 agga Rob? mine only needs 4 and a bit litres.
